WKU - Somerset 2014
04/05/14 Filed in: Competitions | 2014
Dokan continued their fabulous run of success in style at this year's Western Union karate tournament finishing on top of the medal table from the 40 clubs that entered.
On the day we entered 10 individual fighting sections and won five and got silver in four. We entered 10 individual kata sections and won five and got silver in five.
Over all, our medal tally from 20 students entering 22 categories was
You know you are doing something right when you win more gold than bronze.
There were some brilliant performances on the day but it would be unfair to single anyone out, let’s just say it was a proud day for all kids and parents alike. This competition is quite a distance away being in Somerset but it is a good change of opponent as there are a lot of Welsh and South West clubs entering that we don’t often compete against.
We arrived at 2.00pm Saturday to the fine sunny weather of Weston-super-mare and had a quick ice cream stop before a fun time at the local park with the kids all getting soaking wet in the water fountains. Including adults and siblings there were 50 Dokan folk to be seated that night at the hotel, and we had a double birthday celebration with Deeanna Bone turning 14 and Eleisha Mitchinson turning 12.
Sunday was competition day which as usual was brilliantly ran by Wendy and Kevin and I would say the atmosphere at this event is top quality too. As we finished early we went to the beach and the roller coaster etc. Then we watched the BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT motor bike team do extremely dangerous stunts, had a few ice creams and drinks and relaxed.
That evening after a fantastic Italian meal we watched the stunt riders and firework display. Monday we went to the fair before the coach journey home. The journeys aren’t so bad nowadays with the on board bingo, junior domino handicap, squiggles and Sensei Kev's cheesy singalong songs. In fact it flew over. A brilliant social gathering for our brilliant kids and their parents.
