EKF Nationals
18/04/15 Filed in: Competitions | 2015
A far smaller than the usual English nationals with all the under 12 years categories removed yet the day still went on till 8.00 pm. And of course the standard was good throughout the day but more so in certain categories.
We got off to a disastrous start when our 12 to 13 year olds team kata was disqualified on a technicality in the final. A final they 100% would have and should have won. Nevertheless we took both third positions and the silver position in this category.
Next was the 12 to 13 girls kata section where Shito-Ryu kata was the name of the day. Thank goodness I started teaching some of this styles kata last year. It has been hard work for me to try to learn and perfect a completely new style but worth the effort I think. Today it started to pay off big time as Sadie Stoner took gold performing 3 Shito-Ryu kata in her rounds and we also took silver (Simone Stewart) and bronze (Tammy Proctor) in this section.
Finally, 12 to 13 Kumite, light weight. We had three entries but although our girls tried hard we were outclassed in a very classy section. Heavyweight was a different story with very tight fights and some rough brawls. This was not an area favouring Dokan kids as we lost two harsh Hantei with Rebecca and Eleisha and all the fights were close. Hannah definitely was our smartest fighter on the day but Alex picked up our only medal with a bronze.
So all we had left was Holly Stoner in 16 yr old kata section where she won a Silver medal.
All in all we had ten students entered and won one gold, 5 silver and seven bronze medals. A good result for such a small squad.
